YAKIMA - James Ralph Shreve, who knew the Lord as his personal Savior, went home to be with his Lord on September 6, 2011. He was born January 27, 1943 in Kodiak, Alaska to Ralph Benjamin and Marian Jane Shreve. He was the first of five children. He lived his younger years in Bremerton and Union Gap, Washington. He graduated from Eisenhower High School in 1962. He served in the Army in Alaska gaining an honorable discharge in 1965. He returned to Yakima and met Alicia June Larsen. They married in 1966 at Ahtanum Pioneer Church and celebrated their 45th anniversary this year.
Jim, as he was known, had a deep love of motorcycles. He was glad to share this love with anyone willing to listen to his story and hardy laugh. As a child he would bicycle down to the local Harley Davidson dealer and wish for a motorcycle. His wish came true in 1997 when he bought his first Harley Davidson. It was a 1986 "Liberty" special edition. He rebuilt and restored many portions of the bike. He loved to ride around the U.S. with Alicia by his side on her Road King. He was a member of the Harley Owners Group (HOG) and served in various officer positions in the Yakima chapter of the Christian Motorcycle Association (CMA).
Jim taught us all that family was first and foremost. He is survived by his wife Alicia. He is also survived by his children, Tanya (with Doug), Heather (with Jack), Trevor, (with Christina) and Karis (with Troy). Jim also is survived by 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Jim was a carpenter by trade for over 30 years. He was the owner of Able Cabinets and Construction. He was a member of Westside Church.
A Memorial Service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 10, 2011 at Westside Church (6901 Summitview Avenue, Yakima). Arrangements are under the care and direction of Keith and Keith Funeral Home.
