Gary Dean Lawrence, 77, of White Swan, WA passed away on March 09, 2010. Gary was born on April 23,1932 to Carroll and Ella Lawrence in Toppenish WA Gary grew up in the Toppenish area attending Toppenish grade school and High School while helping with the family cattle ranch. Gary also enjoyed helping his father (Carroll) with the polo ponies raised on the ranch. After graduation Gary served as a navigator in the U.S. NaW for years. Upon returning to the valley he married Betty Louise Hansen of White Swan. Gary and Betty moved to the White Swan area in 1962 where they raised their family. When first married Gary worked the family cattle ranch and was a member of the Indian Cattlemen's association. His early career started as a long haul truck driver, while working towards a pilot's license and flight instructor license. Gary worked over 30 years as an Ag pilot in the Yakima Valley. During those same years he taught many people to fly. Among his many interests were boating and canoeing with the family, motorcycles, flying and enjoying his grandkids. He and Betty loved to dance when ever they got the chance.
He also enjoyed helping his uncle Vernon Lawrence working with the horses at his ranch in White Swan. Gary was an avid storyteller and had a quick wit and great sense of humor. He was a member of the Yakama Nation Warriors, Lions Club, Toppenish Eagles, Yakima Valley boat club and Yakima Harley owners group. Gary was an enrolled member of the Yakama Tribe.
Gary is survived by daughters Diana (Jerry) Ford of Moses Lake; Sara Lawrence of White Swan; Tracie (Derek) Shawley of Pomeroy; grandchildren; Theresa (Joe) Branton of Yakima; Jared (Heather) Lawrence of Sacramento; Cheyenne and Makayla Miller of Pomeroy and Lane Shawley of Pomeroy, also three great grandchildren, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty, parents Carroll and Ella Lawrence and in-laws Gordon and Inez Hansen.
