July 2008 - Linda B

linda bPhil is very good at marketing and sales. So, about a year prior to us getting the Harley, he began to talk about how much fun he thought it might be and asked what I thought about the idea. He tells it that I had the 'Deer in the headlights’ look in my eyes. I have to say, it was not very high on my priority list. [Bike riding was more what I was thinking]. Then, after several months he mentioned that he would have to get me a nice set of leathers to wear on the motorcycle, and my eyes lit up! It was after that that the idea began to sound more interesting to me.

We became Harley owners an the spring of 2007, had a few nice rides that year and I began working on my leather wardrobe. We did not get hooked up with the Yakima HOGS until 2008 and have had the opportunity to go on several rides with the group this year.

My favorite ride so far was the overnight trip to Pendleton, Oregon. The Live Underground tour was priceless with the Yakima HOGS interacting with the performers. Everyone cut loose and 'let their hair down that evening. I really enjoyed getting to know everyone a little better.

I have not had a bad ride yet, but I am sure there will come a day.. and I look forward to that adventure also.

One Sunday late afternoon in May, Perry, our nephew showed up on has Goldwing. One thing led to another and we decided to go for a 'little' ride with Perry and Lonny leading the way. We headed up to Rim Rock Lake and stopped at the bridge to visit and enjoy the wild life and beauty as the sun set. It was about 40 degrees. As the sun was disappearing Perry showed us this cool warming device he had for his vest and his gloves, then suggested we follow him for the route home. We took the back road between Rim Rock and Clear Lake. The sightings of squirrels, deer, and elk were fantastic, but the higher up in elevation we went, the more snow we encounter and talk about cold! However, Perry had this warming device plugged in and was nice and toasty warm. We got the biggest kick out of that.

Ride Motto is, 'Ride whenever you can’.

My ride advice is to be prepared for anything.
