Activities Officer Update October 2022

Hey Everybody,

We had some good rides in September. Four of us did the White/Cayuse/Chinook 3-pass ride on the 17th. I actually had to bail on the other three due to a service appointment in Bellevue. Our Secretary, Deb Hurlburt led the small group home from the Mt. Rainier National Park sign on Cayuse Pass. Deb and Danny Bullard snagged three dams on that little ride. Jimmy Benge already had them.

On the 25th, 8 bikes left Yakima and went over Blewett Pass to Peshastin where we met 5 more bikes from the Wenatchee Chapter. All 13 of us then rode to Leavenworth and hung a right to follow the Chumstick Highway through all of its twists and turns to Cole’s Corner and the 59er Diner where we all enjoyed a pretty decent lunch. After eating we travelled Highway 2 through the Tumwater Canyon and back into Leavenworth (picking up the Tumwater Canyon Dam for a few people). After a fuel stop, Gary Conn led the way back to Yakima so I could snap some pictures. They are on our Yakima HOG Facebook page if you haven’t seen them.

Then, just last night we had a great dinner ride to Snipes Mountain Taproom and Restaurant. I think we had 8 bikes and two cars with 11 people. The food was great. I don’t mind riding in the dark so I thought the ride was good too.

Our riding season is winding down now but there should still be some good days ahead in October to get in a few more miles. So I have a couple of shorter rides planned in case the temperatures aren’t real cooperative.

First, I need to tell everyone that due to some unforeseen circumstances, we have had to reschedule the Member Appreciation Breakfast that was going to be in lieu of the October Chapter meeting. It will now be in place of the November meeting and the October meeting will be a normal meeting at Apple State at 9:00. I will have donuts for you all. Apple State provides the coffee and/or cocoa. I am planning on leading a ride down the Yakima Valley Highway and Old Inland Empire Highway to Firehouse Subs in West Richland for lunch. The ride will pass the Wapato, Sunnyside, Prosser and Horn Rapids Dams if you haven’t checked those of the Hog Dam! list.

Speaking of Hog Dam!, October 31 is the last day for submissions so get out there and find some more. The participation for this has been outstanding! It will be hard to top next year, but I have an idea…

Since we haven’t done an official breakfast ride this year, I thought it would be fun to go to the Red Horse Diner in Ellensburg on the 15th. We can meet for KSU at 9 at Apple State and ride the Canyon.

The LoH Coffee Run will be KSU at 5:30 on Tuesday the 18th and our last Dinner ride of the year will be on SATURDAY, the 29th at 4:00 going to Apple Tree.

That’s it for now. Remember to ride responsibly and frequently!

As always contact me with any comments, questions or complaints.
